Homeland
Crime, Drama, Mystery
Yet another show that had a massive first season and returned quickly afterwards. I think this one actually won quite a few awards too, not surprisingly. We've been seeing more and more political based dramas such as this and Newsroom lately and you know what, I'm actually enjoying them!
This show had me guessing all last season. Is he a terrorist or not? I kept changing my mind throughout the whole season. It was like a roller coaster of emotions and conspiracy...and that ending! Wah-what?! So good.... if you can last through the sometimes boring political conversations that you actually have to pay attention to if you want to know what is going on.
This is the story of a US Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody - played by Damian Lewis (Life) - who is suddenly returned to US soil after being missing, presumed dead for eight years. Dedicated CIA officer Carrie Mathison - played by Claire Danes (Little Women, Romeo + Juliet) - believes Brody may be a plotting an attack on his own country.... and she's right but there are a few twists along the way that you might not see coming. For one; Carrie is bipolar and goes off the rails quite badly, which brings her judgement into question and sets the whole plan tumbling to the ground.
I was wondering what they were going to do this season. How is Carrie after shock treatment? What will happen now she has been discharged from the CIA? What's Brody going to get up to next? Carrie seemed better in the first episode but then Saul (Mandy Patinkin - Inigo from The Princess Bride! *swoons*) had to come along and drag her off to Beirut and of course that sets off a whole other chain of events and breakdowns.
When Carrie returned to Saul and the safe house to tell him the news of the Abu Nazir (Navid Negahban) meet, I thought for a while that Saul wasn't going to believe her....and I wouldn't have blamed him... neither would Carrie. She did have a rather unhealthy obsession with Nazir and no one was with her at the meet with her informant... she could have just made it up. I'm so glad Saul believed her and set it all up. Then Brody had to go and stuff it all up by texting Nazir about the plot to kill him and the buggar got away! Argh! So annoyed! As if the pentagon would allow phones inside a live and important mission room like that! Pffft.
A few things I'm keeping my eyes on... Brody's Marine buddies figuring out what happened last season with their comrade Walker (Chris Chalk) and why he really missed those shots. Brody's wife, Jessica - played by the gorgeous Morena Baccarin (Serenity, V) - and what else she will find out about her husband. Whether Brody being a Muslim will come out into the open and what kind of reaction that will create... and of course, Carrie going off her rocker again... then people finally realizing that she was right about Brody all along! Oh, and what is Saul going to do with the video of Brody?!?! *gasps*
It took a couple of episodes last season to really get into the seasonal plot line and I have a feeling this season will be no different. Hopefully it'll be as jam packed with edge of your seat action as well!
