TV: The Walking Dead SE4 EP8

The Walking Dead
Drama, Horror, Thriller

I had to write a post on this (even though I had other plans for today's post...) for a few reasons. I've been starting to hear complaints about this show, finally! I've been saying for a while that it's too much talk and not enough zombies, even though I've read the comics and they are almost following the same story line. All the talking is just so boring! After last week's episode I heard quite a bit more whinging... "Isn't this how last season ended?" Well, yeah.

I actually had a little bit of hope for The Governor (David Morrissey) when he found that family. Though when he killed Martinez (Jose Pablo Cantillo) I thought he might go even crazier and take out everyone but the little girl. Nope, instead he goes back to the same old stuff he was up to before and rallies the new camp behind him to take out the prison. I tried so hard not to spoiler this for people who haven't read the comics... but as soon as I saw that tank, I knew it was going over the fence.

This is actually a pretty major part in the comics because this is where Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Carl (Chandler Riggs) lose Lori and Judy (I say lose because you never actually see them die...). Of course Lori is already gone... and now so is Judy. I'm actually surprised they didn't lose more people. Hershel (Scott Wilson) was gone as soon as The Gov caught him but I am surprised he didn't kill Michonne (Danai Gurira) first. Hershel couldn't run off and The Gov did have a vendetta against her. Silly.

I've been saying for a while now that it's not about the zombies anymore; they've almost figured out a way to deal with them so that they aren't a problem. It's all about the people now, the survivors and what they will do in order to continue living. But the repeat of The Governor is silly. I hope this is the last we see of him... though I will tell you there will be others like him further down the line.

My wildcard, Daryl (Norman Reedus) is still going. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Glenn (Steven Yeun) have been split up. Carl and Rick are on foot. Tyreese (Chad L. Coleman) will never die! Fences are down, prison is destroyed, they are all back on the road again! Will they run into Carol (Melissa McBride) do you think? I have a feeling it wasn't her that killed those people, I think she is covering for one of the girls. Hopefully the rest of this season will be a bit more exciting.

TV: The Walking Dead SE3 EP4

The Walking Dead
Drama, Horror, Thriller

Wow, two good episodes in a row! That doesn't happen very often... I'm glad they aren't doing what I thought they were after last episode and splitting them between the prison and Woodbury, episode by episode. That might have been a bit tedious considering I just really want to watch the Woodbury bits!

How does everyone feel about The Governor (David Morrissey) now that we've seen him mow down those people at the military outpost, not to mention the wall of zombie heads! I'm so glad they put that in there though I'm still waiting to see his daughter.... and that's all the spoilers I will say about that. Michonne (Danai Gurira) better be careful around him too... if you've read the comics then you know why, even though it's not the exact same I have a feeling some of that stuff will happen in the show too. I'm glad she's not fooled by him though.

Merle (Michael Rooker) is a real wild card with both him and his brother Daryl (Norman Reedus) not actually part of the comics. So I really have no idea what his role in everything is. Did you hear him mention Martinez (Jose Pablo Cantillo) though? Maybe he will play that role...

I suppose we should talk about Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) too. What a scene hey? When Maggie (Lauren Cohan) walked out the prison holding the baby - it's a girl and her name is Judy... in the comics at least - and Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) reaction when he realized that Carl (Chandler Riggs) would have had to shoot his own mother.... Lincoln deserves an award for that I think. Very well done, very believable. No matter the troubles between them, they were still husband and wife, Rick still travelled by himself through zombie infested cities to find her....and now he's lost her. There's the baby as well... how are they going to feed her without Lori?

Now let's talk about the difference between this and what happened in the comic. I'll try not to give too much away. In the comics, Lori was left behind when they were overrun and I always thought that she hadn't really died (there was mention in one of the later issues of a lone woman who stole a horse from the group, people who Lori wouldn't recognise... I thought that might have been her) and would randomly show up somewhere but I guess that's not going to happen...

What do we think about these prisoners now? I didn't realize the moustached guy was Axel (Lew Temple) but I can see it now... And the other guy, Oscar (Vincent M Ward).... killing the rogue prisoner was the only way he was going to get them accepted into the group and they wouldn't have survived without it.

Great couple of episodes, not boring at all! RIP T-Dog (IronE Singleton) and Lori.

TV: The Walking Dead SE3 EP2

The Walking Dead
Drama, Horror, Thriller

I'm just going to say from the outset that the only reason I'm actually writing about this episode is to show you how this show jumps around. Last ep, the first ep of the season, was freaking awesome! It had everything I wanted and expected. This episode was the complete opposite.

I've said this about this show a lot; too much dialogue and not enough freaking zombies! I'm going to tell you now, there will eventually be less zombies or they will start to become irrelevant... I know right? Disappointing! But don't worry, lots of other crap happens... in between all the talking about it.

So we met the prisoners. Rick (Andrew Lincoln) killed that one guy - who freakin' deserved it in my opinion. I was yelling at Rick to kill him before that but when Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) was saying that Rick should kill them all I was telling her to STFU. Lori annoys the absolute crap out of me!

I was actually unsure about Hershel (Scott Wilson) dying or not, if you've read the comics you know what I'm talking about.  In the comic, the guy in this position is Alan and he didn't survive but then later Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) lost part of his leg and survived. Yes the Dale who died  last season... he actually survived a nice long while in the comics and was one of the major characters... I was kind of upset when they killed him off actually. So really, Hershel could have swung either way and I was right there with everyone else telling Lori not give him mouth to mouth and for Carl (Chandler Riggs) to shoot him already!

Really disappointed in this episode. The promo above is lying when it shows you the Governor (David Morrissey), Michonne (Danai Gurira) and Andrea (Laurie Holden); they were not in this episode whatsoever! That's what I most want to see damnit!

TV: The Walking Dead SE3 EP1

The Walking Dead
Drama, Horror, Thriller

I have a lot to say about this. Firstly; I started reading the comics before this became a show and I have to say that I enjoy the comics more... most of the time. I find the show can get a bit wordy and boring; too much dialogue and not enough zombies! After re-reading the comics again this week I realized that duh, the dialogue is all the way through them too! But I don't know, there just seems to be a lot more zombies in the comics.

Last season Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) died and Andrea (Laurie Holden) got split up from the group in their mad rush to escape Hershel's (Scott Wilson) farm.... not quite the way it happened in the comics... Plus we got our first glimpse of Michonne (Danai Gurira) - who I have been waiting for - with her samurai sword and pet walkers (who are her brother and her dad if I remember correctly). So I'm assuming both groups have been on the run ever since...until they found the prison - I've been waiting for this as well. I know what happens from here on out so I'm going to try really hard not to spoil it for you guys... but beware, it might slip out accidentally...

The first noticeable thing is that Carl (Chandler Riggs) has grown up a bit and is shooting like a pro! I suppose we should expect that, after all they can't freeze his age in real life... Rick (Andrew Lincoln) turned into a bit of a wanker towards the end of last season and it looks like although he's lost the sharp edge a bit, he's still a little off his rocker, which we all expect don't we? It's only going to get worse from here on in people! Lori (Sarah Wayne Callies) has gotten massive hasn't she? Everyone must be wondering how the hell this pregnancy is going to go.... I could tell you, but I wont.

Hershel got bitten! Like we didn't see that coming. What really annoys me about all these zombie movies/shows/comics is that they all make the same stupid mistakes over and over again. Like, when they first walked into the prison proper, I would have been dead-checking all the bodies on the ground. If they had done that, Hershel wouldn't have been gotten by that ankle biter and Rick wouldn't have had to hack off his leg like that. What do you guys think about the leg hacking, by the way? That cut was pretty darn clean for being chopped with a hatchet! Think chopping off the bite will save Hershel?

And finally, there are live people in the prison! Who would'a thunk it? Oh, that's right, me! Know what else is in prisons? Food, guns, medicine, fences... a freakin' treasure trove for zombie apocalypse survivors! I would have been hunting for somewhere like that from the very beginning. Take note in your Zombie Survival Plans people... what do you mean, you don't have a Zombie Survival Plan?!? *gasp*

Hopefully next week we get to meet The Governor (David Morrissey)... maybe that's where Merle (Michael Rooker) is? That's something I dont know because neither Merle or Daryl (Norman Reedus) are in the comics. At least they are talking about 'herds' now... they haven't really discovered how they work though... Michonne will let them all know eventually.

This is one of those rare episodes that is more zombie than plot!
