This show was huge last season and actually, I'm kind of surprised to see it back so soon! Especially because this is one of the only shows last season with what I consider to be a full season; twenty-something episodes. That's what I'm talking 'bout! Let's hope they keep it up, eh?
Just to clear confusion from the very beginning; I will be calling imposter Amanda; Amanda (Margarita Levieva) and the real Amanda; Emily (Emily VanCamp)... Yep, that is as confusing in writing as it was in my head.
Now that we have that established, we should do a recap on last season. First and foremost, Victoria Grayson (Madeleine Stowe) is dead! We're all assuming that Conrad Grayson (Henry Czerny) had something to do with it because Victoria was on her way to testify against him and provide the damning evidence that he was actually the one to take down that passenger plane and not David Clarke (James Tupper) as everyone thinks.
Charlotte Grayson (Christa B. Allen) took a bunch of pills after seeing the plane crash on the news and Daddy rushed in to save her but we never did see if it was too late or not... Emily and Daniel (Joshua Bowman) broke up after Emily confessed to kissing Jack (Nick Wechsler) and then when she showed up at Jack's - and we were all holding our breath - there's Amanda... Pregnant? Does anyone actually believe that the baby is Jack's? I freakin' hope not! But then again, maybe that's why Takeda (Hiroyuki Sanada) sent her back.
Not only did Emily miss out on Jack but Daniel went and jumped straight into bed with Ashley (Ashley Madekwe) who we all know is only after a rise in popularity / status / whatever. Isn't Ashley supposed to be Emily's friend? Crazy rich people...
So this season is starting the same as last, with a flash of the future. Last season was the shooting on the beach and the assumption that it was Daniel who has been shot, this season it's the sinking of Jack's boat, the Amanda and the discovery of the body on board... but who's body is it? We immediately think Amanda, right? I do! It better not be Jack or Declan (Connor Paolo)!
This season we have the introduction of Emily's mother, Kara (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and what happened to her. I did wonder last season why she was never mentioned... I mean, Emily had to have had a mother at one stage. Now we find out the Graysons had something to do with her disappearance as well, what a surprise. Speaking of Graysons... Victoria is not really dead; of course not! She knew that Conrad was after her and I didn't think she would go down so easy... but what about Lydia (Amber Valletta)? Where is she?
Charlotte's in rehab now, no big surprise there, and she's doing really well by the looks of things. Then money grubbing Daddy pays off her shrink and gets her locked back up because he wants her money, which was left to her by Victoria of course but Charlotte manages to tell Emily that Victoria is still alive and where to find her - this I do not understand. Why would she tell Emily of all people?
I can't post this without mentioning Nolan (Gabriel Mann), even though there was not nearly enough of him in this episode. Boy do I love Nolan and him moving in with Emily is a recipe for something delicious.
